Blue Skies Holdings

Blue Skies Holdings

Blue Skies was founded in 1997 by the British entrepreneur Anthony Pile. The company produces 'fresh-cut fruits' from factories in Ghana, Egypt, South Africa and Brazil which it sells primarily to retailers in Europe. The company's first factory was established in Ghana from where it started operating in 1998 with thirty six employees and supplied products to one of the top four supermarkets in the UK. The Ghana factory alone now employs over 1500 and supplies over twelve large European retailers including Sainsbury's, Waitrose and Albert Heijn. The company's other factories in Egypt, South Africa and Brazil have been established to enable the business to offer a diversified range of year round fresh-cut fruits. From Ghana Blue Skies is able to source a consistent supply of tropical fruits such as pineapple, papaya and coconut, so by opening factories in other locations the company is able to expand its range to also offer products such as deciduous and citrus varieties of fruit which cannot be grown in Ghana.
