While working in their patient-focused practice, they raised five children in a home attached to the Brodell Medical Office. Their involvement in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life (Trumbull County), Trumbull 100, teaching at Northeastern Ohio Medical University and their combined active participation in a wide variety of other civic efforts demonstrated close ties to Bob's hometown. After 27 years at their Warren office, Dr. Bob embarked on a career in academic medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he was named the inaugural chairman of the Department of Dermatology. Dr. Linda joined the Department of Ophthalmology at the same institution. Kyle Wagamon, MD (dermatology) and Robert Helwig, MD (ophthalmology) and William Helwig, MD (ophthalmology) took over patient care when the Brodells departed and have devoted their careers to the same high standards of care previously established by Dr. Linda and Dr. Bob.
