Brown Farms

Brown Farms has been in our family since 1856, When it was home steaded by our Great Grandfather Littleton Sandlin. Originally 700 acres, all the land is still in our and distant relatives ownership. Brown Farms still retains 150 acres and has never produced anything other than naturally gaited horses. I'm proud to be a part of the third generation of breeding fine gaited horses here at our farm. As time has passed I have had the opportunity of watching people get in and then get out of the Walking horse business. In 1997 I decided to devote my life to the preservation of the Tennessee Walking Horse full time as so many people need help in getting a true walking horse for their enjoyment. I also feel there are people that are breeding horses that still need to further their education on walking horses before they consider themselves to be breeders. Unfortunately there are a lot of them. I never realized that there was such a large need for serious breeders and I'm glad to say we do have some very fine breeders who do breed for quality and that is exactly what this farm is all about, Just Break 'Em and Ride 'Em. We try to keep about 20 foals a year for the Walking horse enthusiast. Among our types are Sorrels with Flaxen manes and tails and white legs, Gold (Or Palomino) is very common, and Dark red chestnut as well. We have bred and still do breed about a 15.2 to 16 hand horse. However, we have several fine mares that constantly throw foals that mature around 14.3. All our colts are sure-footed colts that have good hooves with good strong legs and bone. Some of our mares have been World Champion's! In their own respective divisions at one time or another and are now proven producers of natural head shaking walking foals. We also offer semen shipping anywhere in the world and our rates are very competitive with any farm. We use nothing but A.I. with our mares and our visiting mares. I also personally ultra sound all our visiting mares as many times as necessary in order to determine their stage of cycle and foal conception at no charge to our customers. All they pay is the stud fee and board. Pretty simple, huh? We are always happy to discuss and consult with people about their walking horse and their needs. One doesn't need to purchase from us in order to know us. As one of the directors for the state of Alabama I try to listen to as many of my constituents feelings and try to give serious thought to their own overviews of what they feel is needed within the industry. People in our breed need to know they can depend on one another for open minded views on our Walking horse Industry needs. There is nothing wrong with differences of opinions as long as there is still respect for one another. Brown Farms is just that , Listen and learn, Then decide what is best for the breed as a whole. Brown Farms offers a simple no frills breeding facility to the public where quality service is offered at competitive rates. We maintain a herd count of around 40+ for our customers and if we don't have it, and sometimes we don't, we will try to find them a horse to fit their criteria elsewhere. We feel that people still appreciate one going the extra mile to help. I want to give the newcomer and old alike a look into what we are doing and what we are all about. Please feel free to browse the web site. It will be much more detailed as time goes by and updated with foal births.
