The Business Start-Up Center Monrovia
In 2009 the Business Start-up Center Monrovia (BSC Monrovia) was established as collaboration between the Association of Liberian Universities (ALU) and SPARK. The BSC Monrovia organizes activities, and services to support job creation and poverty alleviation in Liberia. The activities organized to achieve the objectives are: Business Plan Competition, Employability Trainings, Business Skills Training, Business Development Services, and Matchmaking with investors, Coaching, Mentoring, and Business Advocacy. Since January 2011 the BSC became a full partner to the United Entrepreneurship Coalition to implement the MFS II program. This program in which SPARK (lead) and BiD Network are the main partners, has below as objectives: 1. Direct poverty alleviation (through SME/entrepreneurship Development and therefore job creation) 2. Capacity Building of the local partners and their networks (LEAP/ LBBF/ ALU/ BSC Monrovia) 3. Policy Making & Advocacy. And although the objectives of job creation, poverty alleviation and SME development are still there, there's another objective that cannot be overlooked. The BSC Monrovia has the ambition to become a fully capacitated, self-sustainable organization, in order to keep fulfilling her objectives and promise even after the donor funds run dry. In 2014, BSC Monrovia opened four new centers across Liberia.
