The firm also offers beef, elk and bison summer sausage, and a variety of roasts, steaks, and specialty meat cuts. Mary Kollemeyer pointed out that the retail side of the business has grown drastically since the couple bought the business 11 years ago from the late Dick Crays and his wife, Donna. Ground beef and sausage remain the biggest retail sellers, but the other special products are going momentum and sales are increasing. Currently, the company employs seven including Kollmeyer and his wife. There are plans to added to the staff in the near future. The owners credit their employees with working together with the team to make the small business a success. "Our employees are a part of all of this," Mary said quickly. Brian replied, "They are a big part of it. Without them we could not do all of this." Brian is glad the company's work is being recognized by his meat industry peers. "We had won for awards up to this year and we won five awards this year alone. The Indiana Meat Packers is a very valuable tool to us. You learn the process and getting better every year at make product and make a better quality product," Brian said in pointing out the networking the organization provides is invaluable. "We talk to these other plants, and I can talk to my suppliers ... we all do the same thing and might be competitors, but we're also going to help each other out." The company is planning an open house celebration on Saturday, April 23 that will offer hot dogs, pork burgers and refreshments as a way to showcase their products, renovation and plant facilities.
