Bytel
Bytel, Inc. is a privately held company located in League City, Texas. The company manufactures devices that are used in wireless data and remote monitoring applications. Established in 1993, Bytel's products are used cost-effectively to collect data from electronic flow computers on pipelines, wells or process control units; control devices such as pumps, valves or traffic signals; and monitor status and alarm systems for tank levels, reservoirs, security systems and irrigation systems. Using existing technology in a new way, Bytel, Inc. has developed an easy and cost-effective method to transmit data over a trunked radio network. Bytel's Trunking Data Modem (TDM) operates efficiently and transparently in a much more cost effective manner than using telephone or cellular circuits and is not plagued by the licensing restrictions of most other radio technologies. The company also provides wireless, high-speed monitoring and control with existing radio systems, electronic flow meter and/or SCADA equipment with its Remote Monitoring Unit (RMU). When monitoring the status of alarm systems for reservoirs, security systems and irrigation systems, the RMU reports a change of state for up to 12 discrete inputs and allows control of four discrete outputs. Companies using Bytel products include Mitchell Gas Services, L.P. (MGS), Union Pacific Resources Co., Chevron USA, Texaco, Sid Richardson Gasoline Co., as well as area cities and Municipal Utility Districts. "The timeliness of data is extremely important," said Dean Graves, MGS's manager of gas measurement. "We can respond to problems a lot quicker than before the system was implemented. Up to that point we didn't know where the problem occurred in the pipeline network." During 1998, Bytel developed and designed the Bytel Position Monitor (BPM). This simple communications device offers a unique solution when customers do not have the desire to use computers or SCADA equipment. Although the BPM was originally designed for irrigation pivot monitoring, it as been quickly adapted for use in many other applications to monitor and control water tanks, pumps, traffic lights and bulk commodities. Additionally, Bytel is authorized by Motorola as a full-line dealer offering complete service capabilities for radio equipment, special projects design and engineering.
