Cahi
CAHI, in the self-help process, helps with credit counseling, homebuyers counseling, develops the property, organizes owner/builders into teams and oversees the on-site construction of the homes. CAHI, during the building process, uses local vendors to purchase construction materials and utilizes the local sub contractors. The participants in this process put in their time and labor in lieu of a down payment to secure the loan and agree to work as a team to help build all the homes in their building group. Typically, homes are built in groups of six to eight to better control the quality of construction. Throughout the building process families must commit to 35 hours per week of productive time and must perform 65% of the labor to construct their home.
