China Association for International Friendly Contact

The China Association for International Friendly Contact (CAIFC) is a national social organization devoted to fostering international and regional people-to-people friendly exchanges and is administered by both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Civil Affairs. It was established in Beijing in December 1984, under the initiative of Communist Party of China (CPC) and State leaders of the older generation including Deng Xiaoping in response to the requirements of reform and openingup and economic development. The CAIFC consists of the General Assembly, the Council, the Standing Council and several functional departments. The offices of major leaders of the CAIFC are filled by former State leaders, while consultants of the Board of Directors are made up of celebrities and social elites in different fields. Committed to "promoting international people-to-people friendly exchanges and cooperation, and enhancing world peace and development," the CAIFC serves national diplomacy and plays an active role in interacting with the world as a messenger of people-to-people friendship and a bridge of economic and trade cooperation and cultural exchanges. It has developed friendly and cooperative relations with more than 70 countries and regions, has promoted cooperation and exchanges in multiple fields through multiple channels and at multiple levels, and consolidated the social foundation for friendship with China. The CAIFC makes steady efforts to strengthen top-level contacts with major countries and regions and establishes friendly ties with foreign government agencies, political parties and prominent political and military figures.
