Calderstones Partnership NHS Foundation Trust
"Calderstones provides services to some of the most vulnerable patients in the country, and it is great news for these patients and their carers that this trust has improved the care it provides. All staff at the trust can be proud of the changes they've made and the quality of service they are now providing consistently. I am pleased that Monitor could support the trust to make these improvements. "The trust is no longer in breach of its licence to provide NHS services. This recognises that it has taken the right steps to make sure patients and service users receive good quality care within the right environment for their needs. A recent independent review of its leadership showed that it has also significantly strengthened the way staff on wards manage patient risks and work with senior managers to improve patient safety. "It's welcome that changes to the way the trust is run more widely have in turn improved staff culture and well-being. Notably, a recent Care Quality Commission inspection report showed that staff at the trust go the extra mile to understand the needs of each of their learning disability service users and tailor their communication accordingly. This shows a level of compassion and innovation that is central to the values of the NHS that we all treasure." Two years ago Calderstones began talks with a similar provider of services, Mersey Care NHS Trust, which as part of the national Transforming Care agenda, is expected to acquire the smaller forensic learning disability organisation this summer. The two Trusts are working intensively with those who commission forensic and learning disability care to create a new model of care to support people whose behaviours challenge services.
