The Carolina Club
The Carolina Club was established in March 1993 to meet the General Alumni Association's (GAA) desire for a pleasurable setting for the dining, entertainment and fellowship needs of our community. Located in the George Watts Hill Alumni Center, the Club has become a family home, welcoming alumni and non-alumni alike. The Alumni Center, with almost 64,000 square feet of dining and meeting rooms, parlors, offices, and library, serves as a gathering place for friends, faculty, staff and students of the University. Long a dream of loyal Carolina alumni, the Alumni Center took its surest steps toward reality in 1986 when philanthropist and longtime GAA Treasurer George Watts Hill '22 pledged a gift of $3.5 million. The capital campaign for the Alumni Center ultimately raised the $12.5 million needed to complete the Center. All costs for building and furnishing the Alumni Center were met with the private gifts of 14,500 UNC friends, faculty and alumni. The University of North Carolina is the oldest public university in the United States, and the UNC General Alumni Association is one of the oldest organizations formed to build and strengthen ties among alumni and the University community. The Carolina Club is proud to be a part of the rich history and traditions of the University and Chapel Hill.
