Central Independent School District

CISD is committed to providing technological services and equipment to our students, faculty, and community for what is we consider "essentials" for the future. The district network consists of over 800 connected computers in classrooms, libraries, labs, and offices. Every classroom in the district has Internet access via a T1 line. Campus technology includes ten labs and two wireless mobile laptop labs on four campuses, providing assistance in reading, math, writing, and help with TAKS, SAT, and ACT preparation. Music classes at the Elementary and Primary schools use a wireless computer lab program for teaching students piano keyboard skills. Libraries are equipped with networked online catalogs, Internet access, automated checkout, Reading Counts software and webpage access to online resources. The High School offers advanced technology classes, desktop publishing, advanced word processing, web mastering, Business Computer Applications I and II, agri-science courses and family and consumer science courses. The School Assyst program is used for administrative management, student record keeping, financial management and PEIMS tracking. Skyward Educator Access Plus gradebook program provides teachers and administrators with efficient management of student grades. Novell Groupwise Mail allows district-wide communication for all staff. Central ISD utilizes campus technology specialists (CATS) to maintain computers and software for each campus. The CATS also provide staff training and perform maintenance on hardware for five days during the summer. These technology responsibilities are performed in addition to their regular classroom duties. Central ISD pursues grants and endowments from state, local, and federal sources for acquiring and maintaining the hardware and software. Grants received include TIF, TLL Temple and Kurth Foundation grants.
