CIRCA was formed in 2007 to act in a 'design management' role, working on large investment bank fit-outs in Asia. In 2010 we expanded to cover a full design role for projects in Hong Kong and Singapore; while continuing design Management work for projects in Taiwan, Korea, & India. Our client coverage has been across Banking, Legal, Media, Insurance; & Landlord building works. CIRCA is a term meaning 'around or about'. We believe that with each project, we should start by looking 'around' the project history, clients hopes, requirements, & potential options; to be sure of our understanding, information,& design possibilities. A project is not just about design, but also perceptions, worries, change, values; so our role is also to consider around human values - not just the functionality & aesthetics of the space. where the opportunity allows we implement observational research, which is to gather first hand information e.g. observe human activity / interaction & record what we see, in order to compare to what we hear. This is a good base for a design solution. Research cannot produce a design alone, so design intuition built on experience & training is essential to bring creativity to solutions. We operate a mentoring system, & treat design as a team activity.
