Clinique Darné
Fortis Clinique Darné, in Floréal is one of the leader and oldest, yet most modern medical centres in Mauritius, combining traditions of dedicated personal care and modern hi-tech facilities. Founded in April 1953 by Dr François Darné, a highly respected surgeon, the clinic initially had a capacity of 12 rooms and one operating theatre. In 1972, following Dr Darné's appointment by the Mauritian Government as Ambassador of Mauritius to France, the clinic was taken over by a private company owned by a group of leading sugar industry estates and other business interests, and changed its name to 'Medical & Surgical Centre Ltd'. New operating theatres, consulting rooms, a Maternity and a day surgery were gradually introduced and services upgraded. This clinic, which has since then reverted to its former name 'Clinique Darné', has been substantially renovated since March 1996 into the largest and most modern health care provider in Mauritius at a cost of US$ 9 million (or 275 million Mauritius Rupees). It now offers the latest most advanced state-of-the art medical technology.
