Construction Materials Engineers
Construction Materials Engineers, Inc. (CME) has been focusing on construction material solutions for over 30 years, becoming a leading provider of materials engineering, project inspection, materials testing, and construction administration and management in northern Nevada. The group was originally established to provide geotechnical engineering services as a part of Sprout Engineers and Associates (SEA). As Sprout evolved and the firm grew, the geotechnical support services group gained recognition for its size and expertise, delivering quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) services to become an independent department within the company known as the Quality Control Department. Marty Crew, President of CME, joined the group in 1978. Under new management in the mid-1980s, services were expanded to include project management and building code special inspection. The evolution of the Quality Control Department into the Construction Services Group allowed the team to become one of the largest construction quality assurance firms in the Truckee Meadows and leaders in our industry. The firm continued its tradition of providing expertise on a wide array of projects after being sold to Stantec Consulting Inc. of Edmonton, Canada in August 1997. In spring of 2009, the senior managers of the Construction Services Group purchased the Reno Construction Services business from Stantec, beginning operations on May 30, 2009 as Construction Materials Engineers, Inc. CME's construction administrators, project managers, geotechnical engineers, resident engineers, and certified inspectors and technicians have demonstrated the knowledge and skills to assume full project responsibility or to provide the necessary QA/QC support to complete a project team, with over 30 years of experience utilizing teamwork while providing expertise. CME maintains one of the largest materials testing laboratories in the region and is currently accredited for the testing of soils, asphalt, and concrete by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), the Cement and Concrete Reference Laboratory (CCRL), the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), and we continue to participate in their proficiency sample testing and accreditation programs. Our accredited laboratory has the capability to determine geotechnical soil properties for native and imported soils, to carry out performance testing on concrete and asphalt, and to perform pit aggregate qualification testing for use in PCC and asphalt mix designs. With our materials engineering expertise to supplement our top-of-the-line facility, we provide compressive and flexural PCC mix designs for all of the ready mix concrete suppliers in the area. Our laboratory and field testing technicians are qualified under the Nevada Alliance for Quality Transportation Construction (NAQTC) criteria for sampling/density, aggregate and asphalt. Additionally, our testing technicians are ACI certified for both laboratory and field testing. We provide materials testing for Nevada Department of Transportation, Regional Transportation Commission and other local agencies. Outside of the laboratory, our certified inspectors and testers offer a variety of construction inspection services, including asphalt and concrete placement monitoring and testing, mass grading, pipeline installation and backfill, masonry installation, prestress operations, mechanical, electrical, structural steel, welding, and bolting. CME provides unmatched quality assurance, quality control, geotechnical engineering, and materials testing services across northern Nevada and the neighboring communities of eastern California. It is our goal to continue to maintain our outstanding reputation for seeing solutions and providing results.
