C&M Road Builders
C&M Road Builders is a heavy construction company that conducts operations on Florida's West Coast. Projects consist mainly of complete site development for housing. In addition to private projects, the company has completed road construction, site development, and underground utility contracts in the public sector. C&M Road Builders Inc has been building infrastructure for residential developments since 1989. C&M has constructed communities throughout Sarasota and Manatee counties for clients who include Palmer Ranch Development, US Home, Centex Homes, Lennar Homes, Lakewood Ranch, Pulte Homes, Rivolta Development, Lumberman's Investment Corp and Sam Rodgers Communities. The company has continually and sensibly grown to meet the needs of the development community and now consists of a staff of over 85 employees and a fleet of more than 150 pieces of major equipment and trucks. Chris Muth and Mark McCabe started C&M Road Builders Inc. after working for a prominent local site contractor. Chris has a degree in Business Administration and was reared in his family's company, Muth-Knectel Construction in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Chris handles the administrative and financial aspects of the company. Mark has a degree in Civil Engineering and is a Registered Professional Engineer in Florida. Mark handles the field operations and fleet management duties. C&M Road Builders Inc. uses its own crews for the majority of the scope of a land development project. Company crews perform land clearing, excavation, water, sewer and drainage pipe installation, road base construction and final grading as well as all construction stakeout. The company uses its fleet of more than 60 pieces of predominately Caterpillar machinery to support the crews. In addition, over 50 trucks from pickups to tractor-trailers supply materials to the crews. A fleet management staff including mechanics, welders, fabricators and maintenance technicians enable all equipment maintenance and repair to be done in house. This in house service and maintenance minimizes and redusces excess fuel comsumption which reduces equipment downtime and environmental impact. To further support its operations, the company's materials handling division recycles concrete and operates a road base pugmill and a concrete mobile mixer. The decision to provide all aspects of the site development process was in response to the company's desire to create a more service-oriented operation and in response to the needs of it's customers. Specialization requires the use of fewer subcontractors and therefore results in a better control of scheduling. In the case of C&M Road Builders, Inc., the only subcontractors used on a typical project are for curb and gutter, asphalt paving and incidentals (sod, striping, etc.). While the private market represents the majority of the business, the company is qualified to compete in the public sector and has a strong bonding capacity.
