Coleg Sir Gar

Coleg Sir Gar is a college of further and higher education based in Carmarthenshire in south west Wales. The college has five campuses within the county: Llanelli (Graig Campus); Ammanford; Llandeilo (Gelli Aur Campus); Carmarthen (Pibwrlwyd campus); Carmarthen (Jobswell Campus). Generally, courses are located on a single campus where the relevant resources are available. For instance, all construction courses are located at the Ammanford Campus. In a small number of cases courses may be available on more than one campus, hairdressing and beauty therapy courses for instance are delivered at both Pibwrlwyd and Graig Campuses. The campus profiles on the website will provide you with full details of the location of all of our courses. Currently, the college has in excess of 12,000 students enrolled on a range of courses including A Levels, NVQs, National Diplomas, Higher National Certificates, Foundation Degrees and post-graduate programmes. To deliver these courses the college employs in excess of 850 teaching and support staff. The courses, students and staff are all located within one of 10 curriculum areas, details of which are to be found on this website along with a full search facility. We are extremely proud of our students achievements and again in 2010 our A level results celebrated a good year and achieved a 100% pass rate in 32 subjects. On the website you will be able to read stories of many outstanding individual achievements on both academic and vocational programmes, many of which have featured in the local and national press. The success of our students highlights the benefits of the range of effective partnerships maintained by the college. The excellence of our partnership with the Carmarthenshire 14-19 Learning Network has recently been recognised with the achievement of a UK Beacon Award. Our partnerships with industry is of significant importance and one such relationship with the construction industry was recently recognised by an all Wales and UK Regional National Training Award. In addition to college based provision, we are also a significant work based learning provider with an extensive range of Skillbuild and Apprenticeship programmes in a number of industrial sectors. Over the last decade we have invested heavily to provide our students with the best possible learning environment. This has resulted in our students accessing excellent facilities and resources in areas such as Motor Vehicle Technology, Construction and the Built Environment, Music Technology, Engineering and Manufacturing, Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy and Landbased Studies. Finally, we pride ourselves in being a very caring college, at all times putting the interest of our students first. External audit and inspection of the college repeatedly highlight the high level of care and support afforded to our students- a fact also repeatedly confirmed by our students themselves.
