Renville County Community Residence
County citizens established Renville County Community Residence, Inc. (RCCR) on July 21, 1975. The goal was to have people with developmental disabilities stay near their families in Renville County. In July 1980, after 5 years of planning, the Grove Avenue residence (Intermediate Care Facility) was opened for adult clients in Bird Island. Since 1980 the organization has grown to include another home in Bird Island and homes in Olivia and Hector. Services provided are: In-Home Support, Semi-Independent Living Sites (SILS), Respite Care Services, and Supervised Living Services (SLS). RCCR is licensed to serve the needs of adults and children with developmental disabilities and mental illness. The ICF-DD now serves the needs of individuals 16 or 17 with variances as well as 18 and older. We believe that persons with developmental or other disabilities can achieve optimum degrees of rehabilitation. Our structured residential and community settings along with expert professionals provide on-going individualized evaluations, planning, coordination, and integration of health, school, and work related services. We promote client and staff relationships that create an atmosphere of trust, growth, and increased independence for each individual. Through professional integration of medical, social, and therapeutic programming and the use of the normalization principle, we meet the needs of our clients. RCCR employs around 100 people that are primarily from Renville County. The staff receives training on-site and in the form of workshops or in-services as needed for their positions. RCCR looks to the future with optimism as our family of clients and staff continues to grow.
