Comstock Silversmith
Comstock Silversmiths, Inc. is a family owned and operated western buckle maker located in the heart of silver country, Carson City, Nevada. We opened our doors officially on Market Street in San Francisco in 1886. Operating then under the name of Irvine & Jachens, we manufactured police and firemen badges for the new west. The San Francisco harbor was still crammed with clipper ships, and our deliveries were done on foot or horse-drawn buckboards. Western buckles as we know them today were still decades away from being worn by cowboys. Many think cowboy buckles came out of Texas. In reality, almost all manufactures of western belt buckles in the late 20's were in fact from California. Hollywood turned buckles into must have items for all belts by the end of the 1930s. Our company moved to Carson City in 1970, and we changed our name to Comstock Silversmiths. We are America's oldest western buckle silversmiths in the country. All our products are handmade from steel dies made over the last 118 years. All of our buckles are hand-engraved, and, as always, our product is entirely made in the United States of America. Comstock Silversmiths will repair any buckle made by our company for free for life.
