Construction Hardware

Construction Hardware Co was established in 1963 by seven former employees of Union Hardware and Metal Company, an old established California Company with distribution throughout the state. Union Hardware sold a wide array of building material, hardware, housewares and steel products. Included among the many departments at Union Hardware was a contract hardware division. In 1960, Union Hardware elected to close their doors and liquidate their assets. When that happened, the company President decided to keep the contract hardware division open, starting a new company called "Contract Builders Hardware Company Inc.". The Union Hardware employees, from the contract hardware division decided to move to Contract Builders Hardware, Inc. to continue in the hardware profession. Contract Builders Hardware Inc. continued in business until the death of the principal owner in early 1963. His son who inherited the business had no interest in continuing it and closed it down. The seven former Union Hardware Company and subsequent Contract Builders Hardware Company employees were James C. Carroll, Arthur H. Uhler AHC, Emmet E. Sasser AHC, Robert J. Forbes AHC, Robert W. McPhail AHC, Jack R. Stewart and a short time later Robert R. Dominguez, AHC. In December of 1963 they formed a new company using their own personal funds and Construction Hardware Co. was born. They then moved into a leased building at 1100 south San Gabriel Blvd, San Gabriel California. Later on, the company purchased the building. Construction Hardware Co. began initially as distributors of P. and F. Corbin Hardware, Stanley hinges and other supplemental but well known manufacturers' product lines. The business was successful and began to grow under the skilled management and professionalism of these seven individuals. As the hardware industry continued to evolve, a movement began for hardware distributors to be "Total Opening" suppliers. This included furnishing not only the hardware but the complete opening, including the door and the door frame. In 1980 the officers of the company decided to expand into this "Total Openings" concept by making a substantial investment in hollow metal doors and frames and becoming a distributor for The Curries Company of Mason City, Iowa a new and innovative manufacturer. Since the corporate office in San Gabriel was not large enough to support this expansion, the Company leased a small office and warehouse in the city of South El Monte, a short distance away. As the Company continued to grow, it soon became apparent that the existing facility was too small to house this growth and there was a consensus among management that everything should be under one roof. So, in 1983 the company leased and eventually purchased a 17,500 square foot office and warehouse facility at 216 Pacific Street, Pomona, California where the Company still resides. Today, the Company has grown to be one of the leading door and hardware distributors in Southern California. Currently there are over 30 employees, eight of which have over twenty years, eleven with over ten years and eight with over five years of service. The Company now distributes all major brands of hardware such as Corbin/Russwin, Sargent, Yale, Norton, Rixson, Schlage, Von Duprin, LCN, Best Lock, including doors and frames by Curries, Steelcraft, Graham, Eggers and VT Industries to name a few. In addition, the Company has supported the door and hardware industry and the community by joining organizations and being involved as both members and in leadership rolls: James Carroll was a past President of the National Builders Hardware Association, (Now the Door and Hardware Institute). Arthur Uhler AHC was a past President of the National Builders Hardware Association, (Now the Door and Hardware Institute). Robert Dominguez AHC is a past President of the Southwest Chapter of the American Society of Architectural Hardware Consultants (AHC). (Now The Door and Hardware Institute). Dennis DeJarnette AHC/CDC is a past President and Secretary of Southwest chapter 21 of The Door and Hardware Institute. Construction Hardware Co. is also a member in good standing with the following organizations: The Door and Hardware Institute. (DHI) Certified Association of Fire Door Inspectors (CAFDI) Better Business Bureau. (BBB) Pomona California Chamber of Commerce. The Woodwork Institute of California (WIC) The Company is certified with the State of California and Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) as a Small Business Enterprise (SBE). And in October of 2001 at its annual awards banquet the American Subcontractors Association Los Angeles/Orange County Chapter Selected Construction Hardware Co. as "Material supplier of the year". Finally, Construction Hardware Co. has matured, grown and expanded into a full service company ready to meet the needs of its customers.
