Cornerstone Prosthetics & Orthotics
Cornerstone Prosthetics & Orthotics Inc. was founded by Doug Young and Paul Oswald in October of 1985. The Everett location was chosen in response to a need for a progressive prosthetics and orthotics facility equipped to provide service to a growing rehab medicine clinic at Providence Hospital. The initial staff consisted of two certified practitioners, a P & O technician and an office manager / receptionist. The coverage area was focused in Everett, Snohomish, Arlington and Monroe. The business flourished and eventually had to add on to the facility at 4202 Hoyt Street with a two-story addition. This doubled the workspace to approximately 2,500 square feet consisting of two patient rooms, the lab or fabrication area, a walking room and office space. In the summer of 1986 David Hughes bought out Paul Oswald, and the vision for Cornerstone grew. Cornerstone has always realized that service and responsiveness are the key components of a successful business. Therefore, a means of being closer and more convenient to the patient was sought out. In 1994, in response to a request by a Bellingham physiatrist group, the Bellingham office was opened in the Chestnut Medical Building. It was staffed with a certified prosthetist and an office manager/receptionist. Shortly after the Bellingham office opened, Cornerstone was yet again faced with the need for more space at the Everett location. It had far outgrown its Everett office and decided to purchase land on the corner of 44th and Rucker Ave. A 4,500 square foot facility was built with four patient rooms, two walking rooms, a fully operational lab area and supporting office space. Doors were opened in October of 1995, and Cornerstone experienced its largest one-year growth spurt the following year. In 1997 a Mt. Vernon office was opened and staffed with a certified practitioner and an office manager / receptionist. 2004 was a monumental year of change for Cornerstone. Due to increased growth, Cornerstone was forced to remodel the Everett location for the 3rd time, moved the Mount Vernon office into a larger building, and moved their fabrication division to their own building located in Mukilteo, directly off the Mukilteo speedway. In addition, Cornerstone decided to expand their services to the Edmonds area, and in May of 2004 they opened a new office in Edmonds next to Stephens Memorial Hospital. Cornerstone currently employs eight certified practitioners, ten office administrators, and six technicians. They have expanded their offices to five different locations including Everett, Edmonds, Bellingham, Mt. Vernon, and a fabrication site in Mukilteo. Cornerstone is continuing to grow and is focused on providing competent prosthetic and orthotic care.
