County of Grande Prairie

We own and operate 8 County Campgrounds. This includes day to day operational services and long term planning and capital improvement. We provide beautification mowing and flowerbed maintenance to the four hamlets, 70+ subdivisions, and 30 cemeteries in the County. We are overseeing the construction of the outdoor recreation facilities at the County Sportsplex. Once open, we will advise Nustadia Recreation Inc. on the operation of the County Sportsplex. We provide support to not for profit groups that own and operate recreation facilities throughout the County. This includes, but is not limited to: contracting feasibility studies, assisting with facility development and advising on short term and long term goals. We manage the Operating Assistance Grant Program, Capital Assistance Grant Program, Major Capital Assistance Grant Program and the Community Assistance Grant Program. Through these programs the County distributes financial support to a variety of groups that provide recreation or culture in their communities. In addition to many others, these programs benefit the 18 community halls, 7 curling clubs, 6 ice arenas and 2 swimming pools in the County. We are responsible for facility maintenance at the Community Services Building, as well as for the Clairmont, Dunes, Bezanson, Teepee Creek and La Glace Fire Halls. We are constantly examining opportunities to provide new recreation and cultural facilities and services to the residents of the County and the surrounding region.
