Channelview Independent School District
Channelview ISD is a 5A school district with approximately 8000 students. It is located in Channelview, Texas, which is an unincorporated area situated on the Houston Ship Channel approximately 15 miles east of downtown Houston. The community has a "small town" atmosphere and is comprised of mostly blue collar families who care about the welfare of their children and each other. The district has twelve campuses, an administration building, fairgrounds, maintenance headquarters and a transportation facility. There is a Pre-K center, six elementary schools, one sixth grade center, one junior high school, one ninth grade center, one high school, an alternative high school and a discipline school. Channelview continues to experience tremendous student growth and nearly all the present campuses are at capacity. Special programs are available to all students through accelerated programs, special education, bilingual education, English as a Second Language, vocational education, gifted and talented education, and advanced placement and honors programs. Channelview ISD has a rich history of being "actively engaged in the future of our community" with the school district being established in 1937. At that time the district employed eight teachers. Today, the district employs approximately 905 of the finest employees found anywhere in the state of Texas. These employees are committed to making certain that each child in Channelview receives the best education possible.
