Doing Good Together
Doing Good Together is a nonprofit, charitable organization that encourages, supports and educates parents and caregivers who want to engage with their children in volunteering, charitable giving, and social, environmental and political action. We also work to integrate family service into schools, faith-based environments, workplaces, volunteer centers, museums, libraries and other organizations. DGT focuses specifically on families with children between infancy and adolescence. It was founded in 2003 by Minneapolis-based author Jenny Friedman, Ph.D., as an outgrowth of her book, The Busy Family's Guide to Volunteering, published by Robins Lane Press. DGT dedicates itself to the idea that family volunteerism is a powerful, hands-on way to teach children kindness, compassion, tolerance and community responsibility. By volunteering together, parents and kids have the opportunity to express shared values, have important conversations about social issues, and strengthen their community by helping those in need. Doing Good Together has become a local and national resource for family volunteerism. Through numerous partnerships with family-serving organizations; workshops and speaking engagements; a website; a newsletter; a calendar of volunteer projects and articles in local and national publications; DGT helps families learn how easy it is to get involved, with their children, to make a world of difference in their communities.
