Eden Farm
Eden Farm's origins can be traced to a smallholding owned by Eric Stephenson in 1964 that grew mushrooms, tomatoes and leeks and produced eggs. The business began selling the produce door to door but it soon grew and a delivery service (then comprising just one mini-van!) was added. Continuing success led to the purchase of the Foundry building in Castle Eden in 1966 to hold a coldstore and egg grading facility. As time went on the company expanded again and moved to Peterlee in the 1970's to allow for more frozen goods to be stored. Eden Farm briefly opened a joint enterprise in freezer centres in 10 towns throughout the North East. It was soon realised, however, that this conflicted with the growth of the expanding warehouse enterprise and so the investment was sold on in order to concentrate on wholesale and distribution activities. By the 1980's ice cream distribution had become an important part of the business and Eden Farm was appointed as Walls concessionnaire for the North East region. With our help Wall's turnover in the area more than doubled. When the distribution system was changed Eden Farm was a founder member of Ice Cream World, who have a national distribution network of all the major ice cream brands. Throughout the 90's the company grew and purchased a new site of its own on the North-East Industrial Estate in Peterlee. This triggered a period of expansion and Eden Farm acquired Ebor Frozen Foods, Miller Wholesale and Carmine Ices. Carmine's warehouse, in Bradford, now acts as our sister site, enabling us to distribute more regularly across Yorkshire and the Midlands. The Mastrantuono family, who previously owned the company, continue to run the Bradford site today. Since 2000 Eden Farm has continued to expand operations, the distribution network we offer for frozen food is now national. We make sure our growth is sustainable through sensible forward planning, constant reviewing of costs and forward investment where necessary.
