Department for Education

DECD is delivering the Schools as community hubs initiative on behalf of the South Australian Government&s;s Every chance for every child Cabinet Taskforce. This project seeks to strengthen ties between schools and other agencies&s; services in order to improve learning, health and wellbeing outcomes for children and young people, their families and the local community. Some of the benefits of the community hubs include: attending to the specific needs of individual students so that schooling can be effective accessing support services to encourage high learning performance for all allowing agencies to plan more holistically in the context of each other&s;s services to avoid duplication and to address gaps in service provision Drawing on recent literature, the DECD Schools as community hubs discussion paper aims to provide an understanding of the concept and assist implementation through identifying possible delivery, partnership and governance models. Also discussed are best practice principles for the effective implementation of schools as community hubs. From 2014, the Department will establish 59 DECD local Education and Child Development partnerships that will provide a platform for the development of Schools as community hubs state-wide.
