Ekobanken is an ethical bank, open for all who want to join in and promote the possibilities for people to take initiatives freely. Such people enrich society by offering a broader choice of such matters as forms of health and medical care, teaching methods, and artistic expression. We regard money as a social medium whose purpose is to facilitate collaboration between people. Our principal driving forces are to benefit the public good and our members. Money held by the bank is invested such that society moves towards higher ecological, social, cultural and economic sustainability. We grant loans mainly to operations that create social, environmental or cultural added value. All loans and credit facilities granted to operations and companies are published at least once a year. Such publication may serve also to inspire others who are considering taking an initiative. We aim to create in this way a clear meaning for money and place it in a clear context. Ekobanken is owned by its members. A share in Ekobanken is an investment in a positive future. Ekobanken has during the years focused the market activities on creating network within mainly the Swedish civil society. The bank now has a network within politics, the transition movement, the local economy movement, curative education- and waldorf networks as well as in sustainable housing. Depositors are offered accounts with various terms and conditions. Clients can direct their savings towards a certain area of the loan portfolio as e g organic development and climate protection. Accounts are offered with or without interest return and clients can deliberately refrain from interest and make it possible for loan clients to get loans with a lower interest rate. The bank has a strong focus on financing sustainable development and creating social, cultural and ecological added value. Loans are granted to organic agriculture and food processing, housing, schools and day care centers for people with special needs, independent schools renewable energy, sustainable housing projects, social co-operatives, cultural activities and local sustainable development.
