Horizon

Horizon Initiative is a non-profit organization rescuing and empowering orphaned children to self-sustainability through a micro-community model. Formally founded in 2004, Horizon Initiative fulfills its mission of rescuing and empowering orphaned children to self-sustainability through a micro-community model. A Micro Community is anchored by a child's home, and consists of a farm, poultry and livestock units, academic and trade schools, annual medical clinics, and on-site micro-businesses. With this model, Horizon Initiative rescues orphaned children, provides them with a loving home and thriving environment in which to learn and grow, and enables them not only to be consumers of resources, rather producers as well. It is the goal of Horizon Initiative that by the time each child is a young adult, he or she will be self-sufficient, capable of sustaining immediate, future and extended family needs, and able to provide positive contributions to community sustainability, therefore breaking the generational cycle of poverty.
