Welcome to English in York - a modern, dedicated language school in an ancient setting, where you can learn general and business English and the skills needed to prepare for academic study through IELTS. Our aim is to help our students to achieve their personal language goals and to have the experience of a lifetime while living and socialising in the historic, friendly city of York. We have been established in York since 1985. We measure our success by the large number of students who return to us and who recommend us to friends and family, and by the many years we have worked closely with our partners and agents across the world. We are very flexible in our teaching, and offer a range of courses to match your needs, whether for business or pleasure or for study in an English-speaking university. Courses can be tailored specifically for you individually (see Combi-Group and Combi-Solo Courses), or can be designed to meet the specialised needs of a closed group (Closed Group Courses). We provide a lively and varied social programme for our students, for example trips to the seaside, to nearby cities such as Newcastle and activities in and around York. There is at least one evening social activity each week, and also a full-day outing every Saturday or Sunday. These are advertised and promoted within the school. Pricing depends on the activity, but are often between £10 and £20. You will always have a teacher with you, who will tell you where and when to meet and will make sure that you have a good time. This is a great opportunity to get to know your fellow students better and to practise your English. The school has a large number of computers for student use. Please note that the majority of students at English in York are adults (18+). Students aged 16 & 17 are accepted onto programmes, subject to parental consent. English in York is open every weekday of the year, including Bank Holidays, except for a week at Christmas.
