Emergency Physicians of Tidewater

Emergency Physicians of Tidewater (EPT) is a democratic group of board-certified/ board-prepared Emergency Medicine physicians and mid-level providers dedicated to providing outstanding patient care. Since 1972 EPT has delivered emergency care in Southeastern Virginia Emergency Departments, building a practice based on quality, longevity, service and education. "State of the Art Emergency Medicine" should mean bedside ultrasound, an enterprise level EMR, RSI & video laryngoscopy, deep sedation, observation medicine, scribes, high acuity & critical care, market leader status, well managed departmental flow, Stroke & Chest Pain Center certification, productivity-based compensation, robust QA data, process improvement and democratic governance. It should also mean teaching, researching and innovating. Finally, state of the art should mean strong connections to ACEP, VaCEP, and SAEM, tight integration into the EMS community, access to government leaders and strong partner status with contracting hospitals and 3rd party payors. EPT practices state of the art emergency medicine by these definitions at our community hospitals and at the academic medical center at EVMS, (where our physicians are faculty for the Department of Emergency Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School).
