Edward R. Murrow High School

The goal of the Edward R. Murrow High School College Office is to support students as they strive to reach their academic potential while navigating through the college process. We help foster student development by providing personal and academic counseling as they mature throughout their educational experience. The College Office consults with students, parents, teachers, administrators and professionals within the community to make collaborative decisions keeping the best interest of the student in mind. By creating a supportive environment, it is our goal to ensure a successful transition to college and beyond. Students enrolled in grades 9-12 will have opportunities to explore a variety of career areas that will assist in post-secondary planning. Different assessments will be administered to raise awareness of students' achievement, ability and career interests. As graduation nears, students will develop and discuss post-secondary options with the college counselor. Educating students and parents about colleges, the college exploration/application process, trends, procedures and testing; advising and supporting a class of 800 seniors and their families as they go through the process and helping students and families aspire realistically and choose wisely. The College Office meets with juniors and seniors, individually and in groups to talk about process and individual college choices. Additionally, College Planning Workshops for students and their families are administered four times a year. The office also advises 9th and 10th graders on curricular choices, as needed, and works with international (undocumented) students to understand the US college admissions, especially aspects unique to them. The College Office will guide students through individual planning so that by the end of high school, they are college, career and life ready. Our partnerships with families and the school community, promotes an environment that will ensure post high school success.
