Safety rules and training courses cannot be written to cover everything railroaders do on the job. Therefore, we are empowered to make responsible decisions and take action necessary to prevent personal injuries. Each individual must rely on good judgment, following the safest course available. We may have to contact a co-worker, supervisor or a manual for guidance. No action shall be taken until we are fully aware of the hazards involved and have a plan to avoid injury. No job is so important, no service is so urgent, that we cannot take time to perform all work safely."
