Firebird Theatre
Firebird Theatre is a local non-profit community theatre whose programming is dedicated entirely to young performers, elementary through college age. Founded in Phoenixville in 2010, we chose our organization's mission: to provide a low-cost, high quality opportunity for children and young adults to participate in theatre arts and to foster a love for the arts in the local community. Our goal is to engage, enrich and equip our children with all of the skills necessary in staging a theatrical performance: acting, singing, dancing, stage management, building sets, making props and costumes, running lighting and sound equipment, advertising and promotions, team building and community outreach. Throughout the year, Firebird Theatre offers a wide variety of theatre arts programming, which culminates in our summer main stage, full length Broadway musical, complete with a full orchestra. We also provide a series of junior musical theater summer camps that teach students all aspects of theatre and culminate in a Broadway Junior musical performance. During the school year, Firebird offers a Saturday morning theater workshop series, Audition workshop series and our Annual Holiday Revue. Our Internship Program provides high school and college students majoring in the arts, education and business with real-life experience by becoming a part of the production team, working under the supervision of theatre professionals and community leaders. Thanks to an ongoing partnership with the Phoenixville Area School District , Methacton School District, and The Association for the Colonial Theatre, our children have been able to perform many classics for our community, including Hairspray, Singin' in the Rain Jr, The Music Man Jr, Seussical Jr, Xanadu Jr, Elf the Musical Jr, Mary Poppins, The Wizard of Oz, Bugsy Malone, Bye-Bye, Birdie, It's A Wonderful Life, The Radio Show, Shrek the Musical, Little Mermaid Jr, Beauty and the Beast Jr, Out of the Woods: A Holiday Tail Kids, Cinderella Kids, Jungle Book Kids, Sleeping Beauty Kids , 101 Dalmatians Kids, and A Fairy Tale Christmas Carol. In 2015 we introduced our first student-directed play, The Importance of Being Earnest. Community theatre is a great venue to learn how to stand up in front of a group, make eye contact and speak out! Theatre offers many intangible benefits: it teaches self-confidence, public speaking, the value of commitment and dedication, and the opportunity to practice working in groups. In today's world, where our youth are growing more and more accustomed to communicating by cell phone, Facebook, Twitter and texting, it is essential that they master face-to-face communications and public speaking. Today's community minded youths are tomorrow's leaders. Firebird Theatre was incorporated in 2011 and is a 501C3 non-profit organization. We have expanded from producing one summer show to offering summer camps, fall and winter workshops, and other theatre skills opportunities. Firebird Theatre... where children shine!
