Focus Point

December 28, 2010 -- As Malaysia's leading eye care provider and the first optical chain to be public-listed, Focus Point has always made CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility)a priority. That is why the company started the Caring Hearts Charity Foundation in 2009. Whether it is in the form of eye check-ups at various non-profit events, cash donations to victims of natural disasters or contributing to underprivileged children's homes, Focus Point has shown their commitment to giving back to society, and Caring Hearts Charity Foundation continues to be the main channel through which they make a difference. In conjunction with the year-end holiday season, and in an effort to spread some Christmas cheer, a team from Focus Point, including Dato' C.L. Liaw, President/CEO of Focus Point Holdings Berhad, and Kim Ng, CEO of Focus Point Vision Care Group Sdn Bhd, visited Taman Megah's Handicapped and Disabled Children's Home (PCKKCTM) to spend time with the residents. "Focus Point's main aim was to provide free eye tests to the residents, as well as organise some fun activities for them so they could enjoy themselves," explained Kim. Besides making sure everyone got their eyes checked, the team also lined up a few games, a clown appearance and balloon giveaways, followed by lunch. "Our eyes are a very important asset, and we need to ensure that they are taken care of," said Dato' Liaw. "We arranged for our Mobile Optical Service (MOS) bus to come to the home to give the residents free eye check-ups, in the hope that it will help to ease their burden a little bit and save them from making a trip to the store." After an enjoyable time with the residents, Dato' Liaw and Kim ended the day's programme with the presentation of a mock cheque for the amount of RM5,000 to the home. Founded in 1997 by the lateS.K. Manikumar, who was also physically handicapped, Taman Megah's Handicapped and Disabled Children's Home currently houses 138 multiracial residents ranging from one to 51 years old. While most have some form of disability, there are also others who are from broken or single parent homes.
