Food and Shelter
The primary mission of Food and Shelter for Friends (FSFF) is to feed hungry persons and provide shelter to homeless families, allowing them the chance to become self-sufficient. The purpose of all our services is to guide our clients through the continuum of care with the ultimate goals of achieving independence from the social service system. FSFF provides: A comprehensive program of emergency services Transitional housing, intensive case management An outreach program for the chronically homeless Homelessness prevention programs A community meal program Participants in our many programs include: People living in places not fit for human habitation Those living on limited fixed incomes Mental health consumers The elderly People with physical and/or mental disabilities Victims of domestic violence The working poor Those who have recently experienced catastrophic illness or some life changing event All of the existing programs have evolved over the last 24 years as a direct result of being responsive to the needs of the consumers in our community, by analyzing our successes and failures in each program, and by being active participants in the Norman Social Service Community. As an active member of the Continuum of Care Steering Committee, which is responsible for implementing the methodology used to determine community needs, FSFF has been proactive and responsive. While our primary mission has changed little in the past twenty-four years, FSFF's approach to our mission has evolved with the changing dynamics of homeless persons and families and has expanded to meet the divergent needs of specific homeless populations.
