Forsyth County Sheriff's Office

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office is a full-service law enforcement agency charged with providing all law enforcement services within the unincorporated area of Forsyth County, Georgia. Services also include; uniform patrol, criminal investigations, special operations, court security, administration of the County's detention center, records, civil process, prisoner transportation, warrant service, animal control, county code enforcement, and communications. The agency is prepared to provide emergency response to life threatening situations and non-emergency assistance to a variety of criminal, traffic, medical, civil matters and natural disasters that may impact on the overall quality of life. The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office is a leader in Traffic Enforcement and safety. Taking the lead from a program started by the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office in New York State, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office emulates the S.T.O.P.P.E.D., program designed to reduce the number of automobile wrecks involving young motorists by working with their parents on a parental notification system for both good and poor driving behavior. Nationwide, over 3,000 young drivers between the ages of 16 and 21 die each year as the result of car crashes, Sheriff Ted Paxton said. "Hopefully, S.T.O.P.P.E.D. will put a dent in the number of crashes involving young people," the Sheriff added. Forsyth County also participates in the Georgia Teens Ride with P.R.I.D.E. program, created by the Georgia Traffic Injury Prevention Institute (GTIPI) in an effort to reduce the high number of crashes, injuries and fatalities involving teen drivers in the state of Georgia. This program addresses driver's attitude, knowledge and behavior, rather than technical hands-on driver skills. Our "SMART" Trailers are provided by the Sheriff's Office as a service to the community as one of the proactive responses to traffic complaints in residential areas. "When our Special Operations Section receives complaints about speeding traffic one of the ways we respond is to do a traffic flow study using a "SMART" Trailer."
