Fremantle Pilots
Fremantle Pilots provide expert Marine Pilotage services within the Port of Fremantle, the major port of Western Australia. Shipping has always been the life blood of the Fremantle community after the original settlement was established in 1829, and since 1844 pilotage operations have been diligently and professionally undertaken by Fremantle Pilots. This continuous service has been provided for over 170 years. Our Marine Pilots are widely experienced Master Mariners who prior to joining Fremantle Pilots, are required to have obtained Master Class 1 certification and gained significant pilotage experience in other ports. This ensures we source highly skilled Pilots who possess as a minimum a sea going qualification equivalent to that of the ship's Master, and in addition have proven pilotage and ship handling skills. With this background of qualification and experience, our new recruits undergo an extensive initial training regime to meet the challenges of becoming a fully qualified Fremantle Pilot. All Pilots undertake continuous professional development to ensure the ongoing safe transit and handling of the many varieties of vessels that call at the Port of Fremantle. Fremantle Pilots was privatised in 1994 under the company name "Fremantle, Kwinana and Cockburn Sound Pilots Pty Ltd" and Fremantle Pilots is the registered name and call sign for the Company. The Company also provides licensed Marine Pilots to the ports of Albany and Bunbury as required.
