Gaffer Glass
Gaffer Glass is committed to the following practice's in its approach to safety and environmental issues. We provide the resources to: Strive to be leaders in environment, health and safety management by minimizing our impact on and risks to our employees, the public, our community, our customers, and the natural environment throughout all stages of our business activities. Meet or surpass applicable environmental, health, hygiene, safety and other requirements to which the company subscribes. Implement management systems to address risks, pollution prevention, environment, health, safety and energy efficiency and perform regular audits to ensure continuous improvements. Develop and acquire scientific knowledge and technologies that can assist in continually improving safe and efficient processes and use of our products. Ensure all our activities are conducted in an open, responsible and ethical manner. These principles guide the actions of Gaffer Glass and our employees while maintaining the sustainability of the natural environment upon which we are all dependent. In particular, when Gaffer glass relocated into its new factory premises nearly 20 years ago, it elected to install state of the art filtration on the furnace exhausts. The manufacturing of coloured glass generates hazardous airborne particulate (HAPs) which can pollute the airshed and soil of our neighborhood if not captured in filter stations. The main culprits are lead, cadmium, selenium, arsenic, nickel, manganese and chromium. Recently the company engaged an independent laboratory, www.watercarelabs.co.nz , to measure the filtration effectiveness of the Donaldson Torit® Filter Cartridge Dust Collection system we use. We are happy to report that we emit less than 1/10th of the allowable HAPs1 under current OSHA rules in the USA2. In fact the levels emitted by Gaffer Glass' manufacturing plant are at or below levels OSHA permits for the Workplace Exposure Standard (WES) for a time weighted average (TWA) working day. 1. The 3-hour block average production-based metal HAP mass emission rate must not exceed 0.01g/kg (0.02lb/ton) of glass produced.
