Geewa

Geewa was founded in 2005 and shortly afterwards launched the games portal, Geewa.com, with six initial games. Our business model was based on free-to-play principles and initially financed through advertisement. In 2006, we closed a partnership with the biggest web portal in the Czech Republic (Seznam.cz) to jointly operate the gaming portal, Hry.cz. We raised a total of $2.2 million in venture capital from Poland's MCI Ventures and various well-known individual investors (amongst them Klaas Kersting, Pavel Stovicek). In the two following years, Geewa closed licensing partnerships with Bigpoint, Alawar and Ganymede for distribution of their games on our portals in the Czech Republic. This year also saw the implementation of a full micro- transactions economy to enable virtual goods sales. We started to publish our games on Facebook, catching the social gaming train in full-swing. We set to differentiate our games portfolio by expanding on the mechanics and experiences prevalent in many of the social games available. We published Pool Live Tour on Facebook, which quickly became our flagship product and today is one of the most popular pool games on any platform with millions of monthly active users. We published Pirates Poker on Facebook and acquired Cuketa, the Brno- based company behind the game, Age of Defenders. This year also brought with it a complete corporate identity facelift to help bring us closer to our audience. Geewa releases the competitive, word-forming social game, On Words, and the color-matching puzzle game, Munchie Mania, both on Facebook. Geewa closed a funding round totaling 4.2M US$. Lead Investor of this financing round was Czech Republic-based KKCG Ventures with participation of existing investor, MCI Ventures. The investment will be utilized to grow the company's game portfolio across browser and mobile platforms. 2014 also sees a lot of progress in game development with the introduction of On Words and Munchie Mania on mobile devices and the release of Tile On, a competitive tile-based puzzle game. Geewa expands game portfolio with the launch of Pool Live Tour 2 and Prima Kvizy, a joint venture between Geewa and Czech Television company, Prima.
