Guildhall Press

Guildhall Press (GP) is a constituted non profit quasi-charity organisation whose primary objective is the creation, development and promotion of the literary and visual arts from a community perspective. GP provide a range of creative writing courses, funded by Arts Council of Northern Ireland, and take an active role in the encouragement of literary and artistic talent. GP are dedicated to preserving and recording the city's social, industrial and cultural heritage and through its community sourced and produced publications have been telling the story of the city for over 30 years. GP are members of the city's Cultural Partnership Forum, The Heritage Forum and Publishing NI. We receive ASOP and project funding by Arts council Northern Ireland and SLA funding from Derry City Council, under Heritage & Museums Services. We are members of the Derry Visitor & Convention Bureau, Arts & Business (NI) and Clé, the Irish Publishing Association. Guildhall Press was founded in 1979 as a community-publishing house and educational trust with a management committee of dedicated academics. The original remit was to produce local history material related to the North West of Ireland - targeted to younger readers. As experience was gained over the years, this remit was expanded to include cultural, artistic, social and literary themes and topics with a wider general appeal. GP have gained national recognition for originating quality literary and heritage publications across a diverse range of topics which reach a worldwide audience via the internet and our extensive distribution network. Increasingly, we work with a growing range of community, voluntary and educational organisations using our in-house expertise to provide artistic and literary support. We create digital art, online resources and large-format visual art and exhibitions for projects within the non-profit, community arts and education sectors. In 2009 GP received the Arts & Business NI Community Arts Award for its work in the Ráth Mór Revial Community Gallery and in the same year created a range of community artwork for the Eastway Wall Art Project, funded under the Reimaging the Communities Initiative. In recent years GP have delved into creating literature and art for the digital age and are currently working on providing access to all our titles on the range of modern digital ereaders and tablets.
