Germantown Mutual Insurance

Germantown Mutual Insurance Company has been an important business in Wisconsin for over 150 years. On April 1, 1854, just six years after Wisconsin had received its statehood, the Germantown Farmers Mutual Insurance Company was established as the first mutual insurance company in Wisconsin. The original officers and agents were prominent local leaders and dedicated to the development of the Germantown area. As the company grew, its office was housed in a number of different locations in Germantown. The newest building was completed in 1997 and allows for continued expansion. The need for the new office building was a direct result of the continued growth and prosperity of Germantown Mutual Insurance Company. In the last few years the company has added several new lines of business such as Auto, Businessowners, and Farm. Through multiple mergers, it has acquired five other insurance companies: City of Waukesha Mutual, Cedarburg Mutual, Lakeland Mutual, Menomonee Mutual and Retail Lumbermens Mutual. As a result of the acquisitions and new lines of business, Germantown Mutual has grown from a $5,000,000 company in 1993 to just over $50,000,000 in Written Premium in 2015. Growth has also been steady in both assets and surplus.
