GML Heritage
GML has been involved with the planning and redevelopment of the State Heritage listed former Lidcombe Hospital site (the former Olympic Media Village site) since 2002. GML has assisted Australand with all aspects of heritage advice, documentation and negotiation through the approval and redevelopment process. As part of these services, GML prepared an Interpretation Strategy to guide early site planning. This was followed by a detailed Interpretation Plan setting out a walking trail to interpret the site's heritage values. During the final stages of construction GML worked with specialist designers, Trigger, to develop an interpretive signage program that conveyed the themes and messages of the site's heritage in a way that related to the new residential context, using contemporary design language. The large sculptural signs clearly pinpoint sites of interest in the vast development and brass markers embedded in roads and footpaths direct visitors and residents along a heritage trail that takes in all the heritage sites and their key information. GML's interpretation services allowed Australand to meet their consent requirements for site interpretation and enable the rich history of the site to be appreciated by its new residents and future visitors alike.
