GoJava
GoJava was created by Eugene Ace and Evan Birmann. We were working together for a large national company and responsible for the business of selling coffee products to homes and offices across Canada. We noticed two things very quickly. The first was that single-use coffee pods such as Keurig and Tassimo had become very popular. The second was that these coffee pods created an enormous amount of waste and nobody had a good solution for keeping them out of the landfill! Everywhere across North America thousands of tonnes of coffee pods were destined for landfills where the plastic that made up the casing would end its short life and the coffee inside of it would produce methane gasses that would contribute to global warming. We read one headline after another about the problems created by the use of coffee pods and became determined to find a recycling solution for the mass market. We set out to create a service that allowed users at home and at the office to recycle their coffee pods. We knew that in order to solve the problem on a wide scale we would need to create a service that would be free and simple for users. And that is what we've done! On July 4th, 2015 GoJava.ca opened up for business and we have been on a mission to turn the waste created by coffee pods and other hard-to-recycle materials into resources that can be reused!
