GoodStreets
GoodStreets is a social enterprise that operates as a for profit business because we believe that a business can have both profit and purpose. GoodStreets is a social enterprise. We were one of the first CT businesses to file as a Benefit Corporation on October 1, 2014, when the law officially took effect in Connecticut. A Social Enterprise approaches business with the intention of making change - on a foundation of purpose and profit, using market forces to do social good. Social enterprises are often for profit businesses, with two goals: to achieve social, cultural, community, economic or environmental outcomes; and, to earn revenue. A benefit corporation is a way for social enterprises to form as corporations. There are presently 27 states in the US that have laws that recognize benefit corporation status. A benefit corporation has as much fiduciary responsibility to shareholders as it does to mission. There is no tax benefit for filing as a B-Corp and there is an additional requirement of a third party "Impact" audit to show accountability and progress toward the company's mission.
