Gottifredi Maffioli was founded in 1926 by a young woman named Maria Gottifredi. She opened in Novara, in the same place where Gottifredi Maffioli is still situated, a small laboratory for the production on twines and ropes for textile machinery. Maria Gottifredi got married in 1928 with Ettore Luigi Maffioli: this young couple with incredible sense of business and helped by the experience of Maria's father, who worked for a lot of year as technical manager of an important textile industry, wanted to create a manufacturer for the production of ropes for technical and sportive uses. So the rope, that also in life is symbol of support, becomes the reason of the life of Mrs and Mr Maffioli: they used to spent every days developing new technologies and researching new application for the most innovative fibres. Their production was characterised by quality like resistance, durability and safety. After 1945 was discovered a new type of fibre : the synthetic one, as nylon. These revolutionary material have a lot of interesting quality for the industry: among the other lightness, durability, reliability and safety. In 1954 Gottifredi Maffioli realized for the first time in history a rope made of Nylon, a very important rope, the one used in the first expedition that conquered the K2, the most challenging and feared mountain in the world. Since then the massive shape of K2 appears in the Gottifredi Maffioli logo to celebrate the success of that memorable expedition. After that time the name of Gottifredi Maffioli became famous all over the world and the develop of new market caused an important grow in the production. From the begging of Seventy's the second generation of Maffioli managed the firm with same passion and diligence of the founders: new ideas, solid tradition, great experience, advanced technology and materials, strict quality controls are still the corner stones of our activity. In 1983 Gottifredi Maffioli make the first step in the nautical world: the first Italian team in the America' Cup (named Azzurra) was provided with our ropes. From that time on the sailing world become one of the most important market for Gottifredi Maffioli and a source of sportive success: among the other Il moro di Venezia (1993) the first Italian finalist in America's Cup, Luna Rossa, and in 2003 Alinghi winner of the last America's Cup.
