THE COUNCIL COUNCIL'S ADMINISTRATION The Mayor and elected members. The elected representatives are drawn from four wards: Central, Southern, Eastern and Northern. The Mayor and Councillors are elected every three years. The corporate organisation led by the Chief Executive Officer, who is responsible to the elected Council for ensuring the effective, efficient and economic management of all the Council's activities. The Council decides the range of services and activities to be provided, sets the policy for these services and activities, delegates the implementation of these to the staff and monitors their performance. In general, the Grey District Council is responsible for the following activities/services: Co-ordinating the provision of essential services, eg: Water supply to provide clean water for home, business and emergency use Sewerage disposal systems Stormwater and flood protection to protect the Grey District from floods as best as practical and affordable Roading to maintain a safe transport network which meets our needs Solid waste management, ie the safe disposal of refuse and provision of recycling services Emergency management, ie Reduction, Readiness, Response and Recovery Managing and protecting the environment and public health, eg:
