GRIP Outreach
GRIP The School (GTS) is a program dedicated to assisting Chicago's under-resourced, underachieving, and violence-filled high schools-leveraging youth/mentor relationships to create a safer and more effective learning environment for our teens. Through the GTS program, GRIP volunteers and staff help with security, hang out with youth in school lunchrooms and student lounges, assist teachers and administrators inside and outside of the classroom, teach after-school courses utilizing creative arts and hip-hop to engage teens, and help connect students with positive extracurricular activities in their community. All of these services come at no cost to the school. For nearly four years, GRIP has partnered with Wells High School, the neighborhood school for youth from Cabrini Green. In the 2011-2012 school year, the GTS program: Mobilized 30 volunteers Donated 706 volunteer hours Supported a student Biblestudy attracting 50 students Impacted 26% of the student body through GTS programs Check out this video to see the impact of GTS programming at Wells.
