Groundswell

Groundswell Productions is an independent production company founded by Michael London in February 2006 and headquartered in West Los Angeles. In early 2010, Groundswell's senior partners completed a management buyout, raising funds with a restructured credit facility to purchase the company's film library and ongoing operations from its previous investor. Groundswell's slate includes a mix of independent films, studio films and television production. Groundswell has produced 15 films since its inception and its library includes TRUMBO with Bryan Cranston who was nominated for an Academy Award in 2016; MILK and THE VISITOR, both nominated for Academy Awards in 2008; WIN WIN, from writer-director Tom McCarthy (Spotlight, The Visitor) starring Paul Giamatti, Bobby Cannavale and Amy Ryan; LOLA VERSUS, written by Daryl Wein and Zoe Lister-Jones and directed by Wein; and THE INFORMANT!, directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring Matt Damon. London most recently produced FARMING, a drama written and directed by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and starring Damson Idris, Kate Beckinsale and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. Past Groundswell films include BIRTH OF THE DRAGON, written by Stephen Rivele and Christopher Wilkinson, directed by George Nolfi, and starring Xia Yu, Philip Ng, and Billy Magnussen, which was selected for the Toronto International Film Festival in 2016, and was released by Universal last fall, as well as THE FINAL GIRLS, directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson from the script by Joshua John Miller and M.A. Fortin, and starring Taissa Farmiga, Malin Akerman, Nina Dobrev, Adam Devine, Thomas Middleditch, Alia Shawkat, and Alexander Ludwig; and holiday family ensemble LOVE THE COOPERS, directed by Jessie Nelson and starring Diane Keaton, Alan Arkin, John Goodman, Amanda Seyfried, Marisa Tomei, Ed Helms, Anthony Mackie, and Olivia Wilde. On the television side, Groundswell is currently in production on three series: Season 2 of the Golden-Globe nominated SMILF on Showtime, written by and starring Frankie Shaw; Season 2 of SNOWFALL for FX, written by Dave Andron, John Singleton & Eric Amadio, airing July 2018; and Season 4 of the Syfy hit series, THE MAGICIANS, based upon Lev Grossman's bestselling book trilogy. Groundswell also recently produced Emmy-nominated CONFIRMATION for HBO Films, starring Kerry Washington, directed by Rick Famuyiwa and written by Susannah Grant, for which Susannah Grant won a WGA Award and director Rick Famuyiwa won an NAACP Image Award. Groundswell also produced CHANCE for Hulu, based on the book by Kem Nunn, with Hugh Laurie & Gretchen Mol starring and Lenny Abrahamson directing. Groundswell produced its first series, BETAS, for Amazon Studios in 2013, and also produced the ABC series THE ASTRONAUT WIVES CLUB which aired in 2015. Groundswell is also in active development on numerous other television projects. London, who serves as the company's CEO, was nominated for an Academy Award and received a Golden Globe award for SIDEWAYS. He is Golden-Globe-nominated for SMILF, and Emmy-nominated for CONFIRMATION. His other credits include THE ILLUSIONIST, THE FAMILY STONE, HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG, THIRTEEN, and 40 DAYS AND 40 NIGHTS.
