In 1959, the business moved to a larger 9,000 square feet store on 7th Street Still selling Appliances, Furniture and Gifts. In 1999, having outgrown the location, we moved to North Town Shopping Center and took over the Bergners department store location. With 90,000 square feet to fill with Furniture, Mattresses, Linens, Area Rugs, and Accessories - Gustafson's Furniture and Mattress set out to make their mark in the furniture industry in Rockford. After more than ten years of success with our location at West Riverside, we looked to expand and provide another option to residents in Rockford. Taking over what, at one time, was the American store, Gustafson's Furniture and Mattress set out to remodel, repaint, and re-light the existing space. On May 7th, 2015 we had our Grand Opening of our second location on East State Street. We have been family owned and operated for three generations. Gustafson's Furniture offers all of our customers a personal furniture shopping experience with local delivery, in-store interior design services, no 800 numbers, and our 300 store buying power, through our buying group Furniture First, gives you the best prices available on the items you want to bring into your home. We also ensure that a member of management available 360 days of the year and have Off-Site skilled Upholstery Repair Technicians and Woodworking Personnel, that are fast and efficient, in order to help with any customer requests. During our 89 Years in business in Rockford we have been the proud recipient of 1st Place for What Rocks in Rockford for the Furniture Store category for 4 Years Running. (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017) Our buying group, Furniture First, won Retailer of the Year on April 25th, 2015. It was awarded to Furniture First by the International Home Furniture Association in Highpoint North Carolina.
