Gwent
Welcome to the Gwent and South Powys Vocational Training Scheme Website. This has been developed to provide all those interested in GP training in Gwent and South Powys with information and resources about the scheme and GP training in general. If you have any feedback or suggestions for our website please email us. The course, one of the first schemes in Wales, has been in existence since 1979. We have pioneered small group learning and communication skills training in this area and many of the graduates of our Scheme have gone into practice in the locality. There are three facets to the Scheme: On the Scheme there is the choice of three hospitals, the Royal Gwent in Newport, Caerphilly Miners Hospital in Caerphilly and Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny. The hospital posts all offer an excellent range of experience and there is an active postgraduate training programme in each of the departments. We also have a number of SHO posts attached to the Gwent Community Mental Health Team. All SHO posts on the scheme are List A2 posts with regard to certification requirements. While we try and place SHOs in posts in their preferred hospital, this is not always possible and applicants to the Gwent Scheme need to appreciate that their rotation may take place in any of the three sites.
