Harris Jeweler

Harris Jeweler is proud to be one of only 45 jewelry companies in Ohio to be awarded membership in this prestigious society. As one of the oldest AGS jewelers in the state, we believe in the AGS vision of gemological knowledge, unquestioned integrity and complete customer satisfaction. Harris Jeweler has been honored every year since 1950 as an outstanding member of the American Gem Society. We are proud of the fact that 8 of our employees hold AGS titles. Every year our employees must pass an annual examination to maintain their titles, and each year we send a team of our employees to the annual Gemological Conclave to learn the newest and the greatest advancements in gemology, professionalism and customer service. As an American Gem Society Member, we are pleased to be associated with the finest jewelers in the world, including Tiffany + Co., Fortunoff and Ben Bridge just to name a few. The AGS was established in 1934 by a select group of independent jewelers and Robert M. Shipley, founder of the prestigious Gemological Institute of America school of gemology. It was their vision to create an association dedicated to setting and maintaining the highest possible standards of business ethics and professionalism in the jewelry industry. Only a very small percentage of jewelers are awarded membership in this elite group. More About the American Gem Society: Believing that the jewelry industry is an honorable and dignified profession, the American Gem Society has two primary purposes: 1. The advancement of professional education within the jewelry industry to help eliminate any misrepresentation caused by ignorance of the true nature and value of merchandise offered for sale. 2. The establishment of earned confidence and observed trust in the knowledge, business integrity and competence of the retail jeweler by the general public. To further these objectives, the Society mandates that all its members and affiliates continue to study gems and jewelry. AGS requires every member store to own and be able to use scientific gem testing equipment and to pass examinations on gem identification and grading standards for diamonds. Each store must prescribe to business standards that will strengthen the public's confidence in the jewelry industry. To maintain the education standards required for membership in the AGS, every year the Society requires its titleholders to re-ascertain their gemological knowledge by passing a re-certification examination.
